Join the Braille Revival League in celebrating and honoring  the life and legacy of Louis Braille with this 9 × 12  tactile print, created in honor of the inventor of the Braille reading and writing system.

His name appears in graceful script  in the top center of the print above a raised Braille alphabet, with the dates “Jan 4” and “1809”  on either side of his name , marking his birth.
Under his name and birthday is that information in grade one Braille surrounded by metallic gold.

Across the entire print under his name and above the actual Braille alphabet is a  tactile white cane.

Golden and white Musical notes at the bottom left and  right of the print  add a personal touch: Braille loved music, and was quite an accomplished musician- He developed a way to write music using his raised-dot system. We of course, used Braille Musical notations on the print!

Also, at the bottom of the print,  in the center, is a replica of Braille’s actual signature,  tactile Braille underneath it. It is a really touching addition to the print.

The center of the print is focused on the Braille alphabet itself. We have laid out the letters in American typewriter font “ a through i” on the first row, “j through r” On the second row, and “s through z” on the third and final row. Each of the tactile letters are surrounded by metallic gold.

Born in Coupvray, France, Louis Braille lost his sight after an accident when he was three years old. As a student, he learned about a raised-dot code developed by Charles Barbier and adapted the idea into a practical six-dot system. By age 15, he had created the first version of the system that would bear his name. Braille published his method in 1829, and it was later adopted in France as the official reading and writing system for blind people in 1854. Standardized Braille was officially recognized in the United States in 1932.

This print features tactile white ink with metallic gold underneath, creating a raised, shimmering effect against the dark background. The multiple styles of  lettering which add  beautiful dimension to this print , and alphabet are accompanied by tactile Grade 1 Braille, making the design an inviting tribute to accessible reading, learning, and communication.
